You can have world class training at Pinewood Fencing Academy.

 

Whether you are an experienced fencer or new to the sport, you will receive world class training at Pinewood.

 

The current Maestro at Pinewood, Dr. Daniel E. Andrews III passes on the highly technical style of his teacher Maestro Paul Reyes (1924-2013).

Paul Reyes was a member of the 1963 U.S. Men's Sabre Olympic Fencing Team. He was a member of the Salle Santelli and New York Athletic Club fencing teams.

 

Maestro Reyes taught fencing over 60 years and learned the art of the sword from some of the world's greatest fencing masters. 

 

The Pinewood Fencing Lineage comes directly from Maestro Paul Reyes and his two world famous teachers Giorgio Santelli and Csaba Ethes.

 

Giorgio Santelli was a student of his father the famous fencing master Italo Santello. Giorgio was born in Hungary and later immigrated to the United States of America. He coached the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team in the 1930's and 1940's and operated a famous fencing academy in New York City for many years. After retiring from competition, Paul Reyes taught fencing for six years with Maestro Giorgio Santelli at his Salle d'Armes in New York City. 

 

Csaba Elthes, a Hungarian world champion defected to the United States after competing in 1956 Olympic Games in Australia. Csaba Elthes taught a young Paul Reyes at the New York Athletic Club. One of Csaba Elthes' teachers, Laszlo Borsody is known in Hungary as being one of the greatest fencing masters of all time and the "Father of the Modern Saber."

 

Dr. Andrews stresses these highly technical Hungarian - Italian techniques that involve fine movements of the wrist and fingers. These methods as handed down by the past masters of our lineage have proven to be integral to the success of fencers in national and international competitions.
